On May 12, a welcome ceremony for the Reverse 2+2 Study Visit Group from Novosibirsk State Technical University of Russia was held in the lecture hall of the School of International Education. Chinese and Russian teachers and students gathered together to witness the transition of bilateral cooperation from one-way student mobility to two-way exchange, marking a new leap forward in the university’s international education and cross-border talent cultivation. Evgeny Dmitriyevich Golovin, Head of the Department of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology at Novosibirsk State Technical University, Li Kangju, President of our university, and Xu Ying, Vice President, attended the ceremony.

On behalf of the university, Xu Ying extended a warm welcome to the visiting Russian faculty and students. She elaborated on our strengths in talent cultivation through integrating industry and education, as well as the achievements of international schooling. She noted that the arrival of the Reverse 2+2 group represents a major upgrade to the bilateral cooperation model. It will inject new vitality into the joint training of talents in the field of advanced manufacturing between China and Russia and further deepen educational exchanges between the two countries.

Director Evgeny Dmitriyevich Golovin expressed gratitude for the thoughtful arrangements made by our university. He stated that the two universities share strong complementarity in flagship disciplines such as mechanical engineering. This study visit serves not only as a valuable opportunity for academic exchanges, but also an important bridge for cultural mutual learning. He looked forward to deeper cooperation in scientific research, faculty and student exchanges, and joint laboratory construction, to build a broader platform for young people from both countries.

The ceremony was filled with warmth and wonderful performances. The university’s Traditional Chinese Orchestra opened the cultural exchange with the music piece March of the Elephant King. Afterwards, Chinese and Russian teachers and students jointly staged a variety of shows, including Russian chorus, Hanfu fashion show, Thai dance and lion dance, interspersed with fun interactive games. The event concluded successfully with the classic chorus Katyusha, fully demonstrating the profound friendship between the youth of the two nations.

During the heartwarming souvenir exchange session, students from the Sino-Russian experimental class and the visiting group exchanged distinctive gifts to convey sincere friendship. President Li Kangju personally presented school badges to the Russian students, symbolizing that they have officially become part of the Shenyang Institute of Technology community. This also ushered in a new phase for the innovative talent training model featuring "Specialized Courses plus Chinese/Russian Language".

It is reported that our university signed the cooperation agreement for the Reverse 2+2 Program with Novosibirsk State Technical University last May, launching a new model for international talent training. Under the agreement, students from the Russian university will spend their first two years at home to build a solid foundation in Chinese language and professional theories, and pursue their studies at our university for the following two years. Supported by the Modern Industrial College, they will receive targeted training combining professional courses with Chinese language. Students who meet our graduation requirements will be awarded diplomas by our university, realizing joint Sino-Russian training and talent development in a dual cultural and educational environment. Centering on the combination of professional expertise and language proficiency, this model aims to cultivate interdisciplinary international talents with solid professional knowledge and excellent cross-cultural communication skills.

To ensure a rewarding study experience for the visiting group, the university has tailor-made a two-week program. Leveraging the high-quality resources of the Modern Industrial College, the program caters to their learning needs of professional courses and Chinese language, and includes in-depth academic exchanges as well as diverse urban cultural activities. These arrangements help Russian teachers and students fully experience China’s development achievements and the unique cultural charm of Northeast China.

Going forward, the university will take the Reverse 2+2 Program as a strategic pivot to foster a new landscape of international talent training. We will highlight the features of reverse education training, continuously deepen Sino-Russian educational exchanges and the integration of industry, academia and research, and improve the long-term mechanism of two-way student mobility and segmented training. Focusing on key sectors including advanced manufacturing and digital economy, we will innovate talent cultivation models, and strive to build the Reverse 2+2 Program into a signature brand of our international education. We will cultivate more high-caliber interdisciplinary talents with global competitiveness to serve national strategic needs, and fuel the development of a higher-level opening-up pattern for university education.
