On November 12th, the 6th China France Cultural Forum kicked off, and the world's "Chinese White" exhibition was held at the Franciscan Art Center in Dorville, France. Our school teacher Qu Jianing's work "Si" was exhibited and received widespread attention both domestically and internationally.
The exhibition brings together numerous wonderful works from three award-winning, shortlisted, and resident artists of the "China White" International Ceramic Art Competition since 2017. It also features a statue of He Chaozong from Dehua County, Quanzhou City, the hometown of "China White", attracting the attention of the global art community and ceramic enthusiasts.
Qu Jianing's exhibited work "Si" was created in 2022, using the technique of casting and firing at 1280 degrees Celsius. During the molding process, Qu Jianing did not deliberately control the direction of the soil, leaving natural wheel patterns on the surface of the blank, allowing the work to freely change its shape and stretch upwards during the firing process. The different angles of the work display different variations in curvature, which is also the charm of the material itself. Qu Jianing used his works to record the growth mode of ceramics, and the randomness of the works themselves became an important design language.
The Blanc de Chine International Ceramic Art Award is one of the three major international ceramic art competitions. The exhibition showcases the works of award-winning and nominated artists from three editions of the competition, as well as artists from the "China White" residency program. It awakens the strange ideas and diverse expressions of this magical white porcelain clay material, which originates from tradition and is different from tradition. The competition has been held three times in 2017, 2019, and 2021, welcoming 2243 works from over 1500 artists from more than 50 countries and regions. It has also hosted the world's "Chinese White" exhibitions at museums such as the Lyon Confluence Museum and the Nice Massena Museum in France.
