As globalization sweeps across the field of education and the Belt and Road Initiative builds a bridge for mutual learning among civilizations, Shenyang Institute of Technology (SIT) embraces the world with an open attitude, adding a remarkable chapter to its internationalization strategy! From January 13 to 25, a delegation led by Xu Ying, Vice President of SIT, successfully concluded an educational exchange tour to 12 renowned universities. During the visit, the university signed 4 major cooperation agreements, finalized key programs including master’s preparatory classes and joint training bases, and will further establish a dual channel for studying and working in Europe for its students, honoring its commitment to “cultivating international talents” with concrete actions.

This “two-way journey” to Europe marks a crucial step for SIT in responding to the national strategy of opening up education and deeply participating in Belt and Road educational cooperation. It also vividly demonstrates the university’s strength in industry-education integration going global. From the University of Aveiro (ranked 359th in QS World University Rankings) to the University of Dunaújváros, a top institution in engineering and technology in Hungary, SIT has linked high-quality global resources with its solid strength, accelerating the establishment of a new pattern of all-round international cooperation.

In-depth Collaboration with Top European Universities, Major Breakthroughs in Strategic Cooperation

During the European tour, the SIT delegation focused on core issues of international cooperation in higher education and held in-depth talks with 12 universities, including the University of Aveiro and University of Lisbon in Portugal, the University of Dunaújváros and John von Neumann University in Hungary, and CEDEU College of King Juan Carlos University in Spain. The participation of top universities such as the University of Aveiro (359th in QS World University Rankings) has brought a qualitative leap to the level of cooperation, reflecting SIT’s growing international influence.

At the University of Aveiro, Portugal, the delegation was warmly received by Vice President Artur Silva and Cheng Cuicui, Chinese representative of the Confucius Institute. The two sides reached consensus on deepening higher education cooperation, joint student training, and faculty-student exchanges. They plan to set up a master’s preparatory program at SIT, creating a “green channel” for students to access high-quality European educational resources.

During the visit, SIT officially signed cooperation agreements with 4 universities, including CEDEU College of King Juan Carlos University (Spain) and the University of Aveiro (Portugal), marking a key milestone in the university’s European educational cooperation layout.

In Hungary, the delegation focused on industry-university-research integration and innovation in engineering and technology. At 5 universities including the University of Dunaújváros and John von Neumann University, both sides explored cooperation paths in superior disciplines such as mechanical processing and automotive manufacturing, breaking through traditional cooperation models and innovatively proposing to jointly build a master’s joint training base to cultivate high-level professionals for future industrial development. Leveraging Hungary’s strategic position as KUKA’s European market hub, SIT will also establish an overseas internship and employment platform to precisely align talent cultivation with international industrial demands.

Foundation Laid by Industry-Education Integration, Order-Based Training Setting an Employment Model

The solid foundation of this international cooperation comes from SIT’s years of practice in industry-education integration. Adhering to an employment-oriented approach, the university has deeply cooperated with leading domestic and foreign enterprises including Huawei, KUKA, and Huazhong CNC, innovating an order-based talent training mechanism and integrating applied talent training with employment.

The “SIT–Huazhong CNC Belt and Road Order Class” specializes in high-end CNC machine tool applications, adopting a “major + Russian” compound training model. All 42 students in the first cohort were quickly recruited by enterprises, and the second cohort expanded to 80 students. The “SIT–KUKA Order Class” has run for three sessions, training a total of 205 students. More than 150 students interned at KUKA and its ecosystem enterprises, and 32 graduates joined KUKA China with strong practical capabilities, achieving high-quality employment. Enterprise engineers regularly teach, allowing students to seamlessly transition between classrooms, labs, and factories. Integrating real enterprise projects into teaching makes graduates more competitive in “two-way selection” and improves the accuracy of “targeted talent delivery”.

At present, the university has integrated school-enterprise advantages to establish 19 modern industrial colleges, forming a “Four Shares, Four Connections” integration system: joint enrollment, joint program design, joint training, shared achievements; interconnected faculty, interconnected curricula, integrated platforms, and coordinated policies. Majors are aligned with industrial chains, synchronizing talent cultivation with industrial needs and laying a solid practical foundation for international talent development.

Anchoring National Strategies, Building a New Pattern of International Development

This European visit is a key measure for SIT to implement the strategy of opening up education and deeply engage in Belt and Road educational cooperation. The university closely integrates its development with the national 15th Five-Year Plan, transforming the goal of “building a modern industrial system” into industrial colleges co-established with leading enterprises, and integrating the strategy of “developing new quality productive forces” into intelligent-enabled teaching processes, responding to national strategic needs through educational practice.

Looking ahead, taking this visit as an opportunity, SIT will continue to integrate high-quality overseas educational resources, improve its international talent training system, and further expand strategic cooperation with world-class universities. Upholding the concept of openness and cooperation, the university will cultivate more high-quality talents with global vision, innovative spirit and practical capabilities, writing a new chapter of serving the country through education amid globalization. From campus to the world, from industry-education integration to international win-win results, SIT’s journey of internationalization has begun. It is striding forward on the path of serving national strategies and promoting global development.
