On September 24th, the Shenyang Industrial Design Competition hosted by the Shenyang Municipal Government came to an end, and our ceramic teacher Wang Yingjie’s entry “Mysterious East” won the gold medal in the product design category.
The competition is themed "Empowering the Future with Design", with two categories: Product and Creative, and five major categories including Advanced Manufacturing. A total of 105 award-winning works were selected. This year, a total of 2100 entries were collected for the competition. The entries come from 75 universities and research institutes, 180 enterprises and institutions, and more than 60 independent designers from 23 provinces (cities), autonomous regions, and special administrative regions across the country. The works are diverse, innovative, and highly convertible.
The Shenyang Industrial Design Competition has been held six times since it was hosted by the Shenyang Municipal People's Government in 2019. As the most influential industrial design competition in Northeast China, the competition focuses on the construction of national advanced manufacturing centers and regional cultural and creative centers, promoting industrial innovation through technological innovation, cultivating and strengthening new quality productivity, building the first brand competition platform in Northeast China with high standards, improving the industrial design level of key industrial clusters, enhancing the competitiveness of advantageous industries, and playing a crucial role as a bridge and link in promoting the development of the design industry in Shenyang and Northeast China and the transformation of industrial design achievements.
Wang Yingjie’s entry “Mysterious East” is a jade pig dragon shaped wine vessel from the Hongshan Culture. The work innovatively combines the purple clay of Kazuo with the ceramics of Fushun Daguan Kiln, which not only has a profound cultural heritage, but also has practicality and decorative value. The water inlet of the wine dispenser is cleverly located at the bottom, with a strong sense of design. The work evolved from the “Jade Pig Dragon” of the Hongshan culture. The Niuheliang Site of the Hongshan Culture in Liaoning Province provides empirical evidence for China's 5000 year civilization and has become an important component of China's rich traditional culture. Dragon "is the totem of Chinese culture," pig "is a symbol of auspiciousness and wealth, and" jade "represents longevity, tranquility, and auspiciousness. The works have auspicious and beautiful meanings.
Wang Yingjie grew up in Kazan and was exposed to purple clay since childhood. In high school, he studied under a master to make purple clay teapots and officially entered the world of purple clay. In 2019, Wang Yingjie joined our school as a teacher specializing in ceramics. In 2020, the Daguanyao Ceramic Studio of our School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship launched a school enterprise cooperation with Tangzhiyun Zisha Company in Kazuo County. Wang Yingjie was sent to Kazan to train local farmers and lead them to become wealthy through purple clay, helping to revitalize the countryside.
Wang Yingjie's work “Twelve Zodiac Animals” was fully collected by the organizers at the Daguan Kiln Ceramic Exhibition in Laobei City, Shenyang. The work 'Three Friends of the Cold Year’ won the Gold Award for Fine Arts and Crafts in Liaoning Province at the first Liaoning Cultural and Art Festival in 2019. The work 'Dragon and Horse Spirit' won the Best Craftsmanship Award in the 9th China Liaoning 'Jade Dragon Cup' Gemstone, Inkstone Carving and Ceramic Art Production Selection Activity. The work “Jingguan” won the silver award at the 11th China Ceramic Product Design Competition. In 2023, he was awarded the "Liaoning May Day Labor Medal". In 2024, he appeared on the Liaoning TV Spring Festival Gala special program with the design of the Daguan Kiln ceramic team based on the Hongshan Culture Jade Pig Dragon, introducing intangible cultural heritage works and promoting regional culture.
