From April 20 to 21, Kazuichi Tsuchimochi, Vice President of Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI), Japan, and his delegation visited our university. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on advancing the "3+2" master's program and deepening the cultivation of international talents. Kazuichi Tsuchimochi delivered a lecture titled "Promoting Liberal Arts Integration in Education—The Evolution from STEM to STEAM" for faculty and students participating in the "3+2" program. Chairman Wang Zhaobao warmly received Kazuichi Tsuchimochi and his delegation. Miao Bokun, Program Director of the International Student Affairs Department at KCGI, and Yang Xiuying, Vice President of our university, attended the exchange meeting.
At the meeting, Yang Xiuying stated that the university closely follows the demands of the times, actively promotes the "major + language" educational reform, and builds an international education cooperation brand integrating "major + language." Since the signing of the educational project cooperation agreement between our university and KCGI in April 2023, both sides have adhered to the principle of "mutual trust and equal consultation" to jointly cultivate high-level professionals with international perspectives, proficiency in Japanese, and expertise in information technology. In October 2024, the "3+2" master's program was officially launched, marking a new stage of collaboration between the two institutions. To date, over 100 students have joined the program, with two already studying in Japan and 23 others significantly improving their language skills through systematic Japanese training, preparing to study abroad this October. To ensure the high-quality implementation of the program, our university has developed a "step-by-step" curriculum system, offering specialized courses such as Basic Japanese, Japanese Communication, and Japanese Culture Appreciation. A teaching team led by Japanese language experts provides students with an immersive and scenario-based language and cultural learning environment. Additionally, the establishment of the "3+2 Japanese Navigation Club" fosters a platform for Japanese language exchange. Activities such as "Japanese Night," "Sushi-Making Experience," and "Window to Kyoto" research programs further enhance students' language proficiency and cultural understanding, laying a solid foundation for deeper cooperation. Looking ahead, our university will continue to deepen the "major + language" teaching reform, using Japanese as a bridge, majors as the foundation, and practice as the driving force to cultivate more interdisciplinary talents with global perspectives. We look forward to expanding cooperation with KCGI in talent cultivation, academic exchange, and practical innovation to jointly write a new chapter in fostering international talents.
Kazuichi Tsuchimochi highly commended our university's educational facilities, innovative practices in industry-education integration, sincerity in cooperation, and efficient project advancement. He elaborated on KCGI's outstanding achievements in major development and international exchange, as well as its determination to become a top-tier applied graduate school in Asia. He noted that Shenyang Institute of Technology has achieved remarkable results in talent cultivation, with students possessing solid theoretical knowledge, outstanding practical skills, and strong comprehensive qualities. He emphasized that the "3+2" master's program provides students with a broader growth platform. KCGI will fully support the studies and lives of students in Japan, leveraging its disciplinary strengths in information technology, high-quality teaching resources, and research platforms to help students become interdisciplinary talents with both global vision and professional competence. He expressed hope that both sides would take this event as a new starting point to further expand cooperation in talent cultivation, academic exchange, and scientific research, jointly elevating the internationalization of education at both universities.
During the meeting, the two sides held in-depth discussions on further deepening the international cooperation mechanism, the talent cultivation model of the "3+2" program, and the "major + language" teaching reform. In the future, the two universities will build on their existing cooperation to jointly cultivate talents and establish a joint master's training base.
During their visit, the KCGI delegation toured our university’s Modern Industry College, gaining detailed insights into the achievements in digital construction, industry-education integration, and university-enterprise cooperation.
Participants included Yang Yue, Director of the Academic Affairs Office; Zhang Lili, Dean of School of International Education; Jin Xin, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office; and Wang Sitian, Japanese Program Coordinator.
