In order to carry out intensive learning and education of teachers’ ethics, on July 3, Professor Li TianLai, an academician of the CAE member, a famous facility horticulture expert from the School of Horticulture in Shenyang Agricultural University, was invited to give a special report. Chairman Wang Zhaobao, school leaders including Hu Xiaomei, Li Kangju, Gong Piguo, Shaoyu, Li Wenguo, Liu Aiqiu and Yang Xiuying attended the report, which was presided over by Hu Xiaomei, Secretary of the Party Committee at SIT.
Academician Li has been working at the front line of teaching and scientific research since 1982. He once served as the vice president of Shenyang Agricultural University, a member of the CPPCC National Committee, and now serves as the vice chairman of the Chinese Horticulture Society and the vice chairman of the Chinese Agricultural engineering Society, he has made outstanding contributions to the development of China’s agricultural higher education and facility gardening. More than 180 postdoctoral and master’s students have been trained by Li, and their research achievements have won second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award and five first prizes of the Liaoning Provincial Teaching Achievement Award; his Facility Horticulture has been selected as a national high-quality course, first-class undergraduate course, and ideological and political demonstration course; he was the editor in chief of Protected Vegetable Cultivation that has won the National Excellent Textbook for Agricultural Colleges and the Second Prize in the First National Textbook Construction; his team also has won the national teaching team and the first batch of national university Huang Danian style teacher teams. He had created energy-saving design theories and methods for solar greenhouses, developed a series of energy-saving solar greenhouses, and constructed a vegetable cultivation mode and technical system for energy-saving solar greenhouses. The achievements have won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, National Innovation Competition Award, and Chinese Agricultural Talent Award, 7 first prizes of provincial and ministerial level science and technology progress awards, and 6 second prizes; he has published over 10 works, 470 papers and obtained over 80 authorized and publicly available patents. He has successively won the National University Teaching Master Award, National Teaching Model, National Model Teacher, National Excellent Agricultural Science and Technology Worker, National Excellent Science and Technology Commissioner, and other honorary titles.
Combined with his learning and growth experience and rich work experience, Academician Li, In the report , explained the title “Striving to Be a Qualified People’s Teacher in the New Era”, the importance of cultivating qualified teachers, good professional ethics, exquisite professional qualities, and good cultural cultivation from a high perspective. He also introduced the construction and achievements of the first batch of Huang Danian style teachers’ team-Shenyang Agricultural University’s protected vegetable cultivation and physiology teachers’ team. He pointed out that the education plan is teacher-oriented. The ethics and style of teaching, the fundamental issue of education, directly affects the overall quality of the teaching team, which is also related to the implementation of the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talent, as well as the educational mission and responsibility of cultivating socialist builders and successors. In the new era, qualified teachers should not only be proficient in professional knowledge and do a good job as “economic teachers”, but also cultivate moral character and become “human teachers”. We must strictly restrain ourselves, regulate professional behavior, strengthen moral consciousness, strive to respect knowledge, be strict with ourselves, and serve as a role model, striving to become a good teacher with ideals and beliefs, moral sentiments, solid knowledge, and a benevolent heart.
When presiding over the report, Hu Xiaomei pointed out that the first criterion for teacher evaluation is teacher ethics, which is determined by the particularity of the teacher profession and the special mission of education. The original mission of cultivating talents for the country is to transform learning achievements into vivid practices that continuously improve one’s own moral cultivation, influence and drive students’ growth through exemplary behavior, respect work and learning, uphold morality and beauty, and create a clean and upright educational environment. We should fully leverage the role of teacher party branches and party members, making them an important platform for cultivating good teacher ethics and conduct. Party members and teachers should become the backbone of practicing noble teacher ethics, strive to be the exemplary benchmark for good teachers with the “Four Haves”, run education that satisfies the people, and strive to write a new chapter in the high-quality development of SIT.
At the meeting, Academician Li answered some questions asked by Zhao Yuan, Dean of the College of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Shi Haibin, Dean of the College of Arts and Media, and Na Guangning, Vice Dean of the College of Life Engineering, and elaborated on the career development of teachers and how professional leaders play a role in the construction of teaching teams.
Professor Qi Mingfang, director of the Modern Facilities Horticulture Engineering Technology Center of Shenyang Agricultural University and member of the CPPCC Provincial Committee, accompanied Academician Li to SIT. More than 280 middle-level cadres and teacher representatives from the entire school attended the meeting.
